What to know
Well-child visits track growth, development, behavior, sleep, nutrition, safety, school concerns, and vaccinations. Sick visits evaluate symptoms in the context of a child’s age and medical history.
Young children can worsen faster than adults, so caregiver observations matter.
Steps that may help
- Keep vaccinations and well-child visits current.
- Use age-appropriate car seats, helmets, water safety, and safe sleep practices.
- Never give aspirin to a child unless specifically directed.
- Use weight-based medicine dosing and verify products before combining them.
- Encourage regular sleep, activity, balanced meals, and limited sugary drinks.
When to contact our office
Call for persistent fever, worsening cough, ear pain, rash, dehydration concerns, school or developmental concerns, or when you are unsure how sick your child is.
When to seek emergency care
Seek emergency care for trouble breathing, blue or gray color, seizure, severe dehydration, stiff neck with severe illness, poisoning, major injury, or a child who is difficult to wake. Any fever in a very young infant requires prompt medical guidance.
